The size systems we run
Dresses at Fashion Gal are sold in one of three size systems, and the product page tells you which one applies.
| System | Sizes offered | Where it is used |
|---|---|---|
| Alpha | XXS, XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL | Most dresses on the site |
| Combined | XS/S, S/M, M/L, L/XL | Shirred, elasticised and pull-on shapes that stretch across two sizes |
| Numeric | 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 | Structured dresses cut to a fixed size run |
Only the sizes shown in the selector on a product page are available for that dress. A dress sold in combined sizes is not offered in alpha or numeric sizes as well.
How to measure
Measure over your underwear, with the tape level and pulled snug but not tight.
| Measurement | How to take it |
|---|---|
| Bust | Around the fullest part of the bust, keeping the tape level across the back. |
| Waist | Around the narrowest part of the torso, usually just above the navel. |
| Hip | Around the fullest part of the hips and seat, with your feet together. |
| Length | From the top of the shoulder straight down to where you want the hem to fall. |
Choosing between two sizes
Read the product description first, because the cut decides this more often than the measurement does.
Where a dress is described as an oversized or relaxed fit, take the smaller of the two sizes. Where a dress is bodycon, boned, or built on a fixed strap that does not adjust, take the larger. Shirred and elasticised shapes stretch across a range, which is why they are sold as combined sizes in the first place. If you are still unsure, email support@fashiongalstore.com with the name of the dress and your measurements, and we answer within 3 business days.
